Numbers showed up and so did a capybara ✨
Hi mamas & papas —
Week 5 was numbers + giggles + one very chill capybara.
We started bringing number blocks into play — not worksheets, just towers, stories, and ‘whoa, that’s taller than me!’ moments. One is one, two is one more, and suddenly counting feels like building. We want number sense to feel cozy early, not scary.
And big news: please welcome our new friend... capybara!! 😂 He’s huge, super soft, and already got hugged 100 times, sat on, and recruited as a reading buddy. The kids are obsessed. He doesn’t say much, but his vibe is immaculate.
Popsicles, water play, car wash, books, balance beams — full, sweet, very us.

Our new friend is... a capybara?! 🦫💛
Meet the newest member of Ivy Grove: Sir Capybara. He’s fluffy, very huggable, and exactly the right size for leaning against during storytime. ‘Capybara is my best friend!’ Two friends already claimed him as bestie, pink tent became his house, and he got invited to everything. New friend energy = instant extra cuddles.
Numberblocks have entered the chat 🔢
‘One! That’s one! And another one makes two!’ We introduced number blocks — not as a lesson, but as play. First, we watched Numberblocks (red One was a hit, 4 tiny backs completely locked in). Then, we built. A tower so tall we had to stand on tiptoes to add the last piece. ‘One, two, three... whoa!’ Counting while building, building while counting. That’s early number sense: one more, taller, bigger, my turn to add.
Barefoot balance beam to the ball pit 🌈
Our colorful stepping stones became a bridge to the ball pit. Four friends, barefoot, holding the rail, one wobbly step at a time. ‘Don’t fall! Be careful!’ ‘Your turn, wait!’ No rushing. When you get to the end? Belly flop into pastel balls. Gross motor + waiting + cheering friends = best combo.
Busy books, busy little brains 📚
‘I found Paw Patrol!’ Top: LeapFrog books open, stylus tapping, Paw Patrol faces lighting up. Bottom: one kid building a magnetic castle while the other reads a big watermelon book right next to her. Two different worlds, side by side, totally peaceful. This is what independent play + cozy coexistence looks like at age 2-3.
Popsicle check! Who’s melting faster? 🍦☀️
Hot afternoon = popsicle party on the patio. Four flavors, four very serious taste testers, one kid tilting her head like ‘this is art.’ ‘Mine is cold! Yummy!’ Sticky hands, rosy cheeks, ‘mine!’ and then immediately offering a lick to a friend. Summer in one picture.
Water, water everywhere 💦🚗
‘Wash wash wash the car!’ Water table got a promotion to splash headquarters — pouring, scooping, tiny turtles swimming. Then we took it outside to the car wash: ladybug car needed a bath, two little mechanics with brush and cloth, scrubbing so seriously. Practical life looks like play when it’s sunny.
